Our honest review
If your closets feel full but disorganized, the problem is almost always that you're ignoring the door. The inside of a closet door is usable storage space, and most people treat it like a wall.
I started with one over-the-door organizer in our coat closet for scarves, gloves, and hats — all the things that used to pile on the shelf and fall every time someone grabbed a coat. Three organizers later, they're also in the pantry (snack packs, spice overflow, foil and wrap boxes) and in our master closet (jewelry, accessories, things I reach for daily but don't want to dig for).
The clear-pocket style is what I'd specifically recommend over the pouch or basket versions. When pockets are clear, you see exactly what's in each one from a standing distance, which means the door storage actually gets used instead of becoming a mystery dump.
What to check before buying: measure your door before you order. Most over-door organizers fit standard interior door depths (1.25"–1.5" frame), but if you have a thick-frame or custom door, the hook clearance matters. Some models have adjustable hooks; those are worth the small price premium if you're not sure.
Weight capacity matters too — if you're planning to put cleaning products or heavier items in it, a metal-frame organizer handles more than a fabric one. For lighter items (snacks, accessories, small bathroom products), fabric is fine and less likely to knock into the door frame.
Price range for the good ones: $20–$35. The over-door organizer is genuinely one of the highest ROI storage purchases you can make because you're adding storage without taking up any floor or shelf space.

Coat closet, pantry, master closet. The pantry one alone holds snacks and spice overflow that used to live on prime shelf space.
